Iconic Brisbane indie band george are set to return to Adelaide for the first time in over 10 years as they reunite for a special one off performance at The Gov. The band recently reunited for the first show together in 11 years for a special sold out performance at Brisbane Festival for the bands 20th anniversary to rave reviews. The band began its rise to the top in 1998 with the debut EP george, followed by two EPs, both which were heavily rotated by Triple J, gaining the band a huge live following across Australia.
In 2001 and 2002, the band released the singles ‘Special Ones’, ‘Run’, ‘Breathe In Now’ and ‘Breaking It Slowly’ as their debut album Polyserena debuted at #1 on the ARIA charts. Polyserena achieved gold record status within ten days, platinum record status within three weeks, and then went double platinum, spending 36 weeks in the top 50.
From humble beginnings at the Gold Coast Rose and Crown Tavern, the band went on to sell out the Sydney Opera House three times and perform around the world. Touted as one of the best live Australian bands ever, george was one of the first indie bands to sell out huge venues like The Metro Theatre in Sydney, paving the way for non-commercial music in Australia.
george are reuniting for a series of performances around their 20th anniversary including performing at the upcoming Queenscliff Music Festival as well as more shows to be announced. To celebrate the reunion the band have also released a limited edition CD, which features a collection of rare never heard before george tracks as well as early recordings from the band. The CD is available exclusively through the george website.
george will be supported by special guest singer songwriter Jack Carty.
