The Herald Sun has released a list of Australia’s top 100 singers of all time compiled by some of the countries finest voices.

It’s no surprise that Katie’s peers voted her into the top 20.
Here is what they had to say…

‘First seducing the nation as the singer in George, Noonan has embarked on an interesting career path, from jazz to occasional collisions with pop charts. “Right from the beginning she has stamped ‘class’ on her career,” Icehouse’s Iva Davies says of Noonan. “Very few people achieve the control, range and dynamic, supported by flawless technique, and among the pantheon of female singers she could easily claim a place next to the great Joni Mitchell in that regard.”
Michael Paynter said Noonan has one of the best jazz voices Australia has ever produced. “Her voice is as smooth as it is ethereally resonant.” Or as Damien Leith points out, “She has the voice of an angel.”
Kate Ceberano said Noonan has her dream voice. “Katie is like the voice I have in my dreams. Soaring and no note too impossible to reach. She makes something so difficult seem so easy. Her voice is the sound of wonder to me.”

‘This is a selection of songs from the last 15 years of my life. It has been really interesting going through these works and seeing my evolution as a musician and my journey from a girl to a young woman through to a wife and mother.’ 

Accompanying the album of the the same name, Songbook (The Book) is a collection of sheet music, rare photos and anecdotes from Katie that explores some of her most popular songs and gives an insight into the history of these songs and her own creative process.

This is the first time that any of Katie’s sheet music has been available.

The 2012 ARIA Awards were held last night and what an event it was (I’ve been reminded by my day of recovery). I always love going to these events because it is a true celebration of our wonderful Australian music and the talent that this country produces and a wonderful catch up with my friends who I don’t see as often as I’d like.

I must say that the induction of Yothu Yindi into the ARIA hall of fame (the first Indigenous group to be recognised by the industry in this way), and their performance featuring Paul Kelly, Peter Garrett, Jessica Mauboy, Dan Sultan and Andrew Farriss, has got to be the highlight of the evening. The whole room embraced the spectacular magic on stage and we were all up on our feet, as one, celebrating a group who have truly inspired the industry and have spent their time and energy building the bridge to equality.

Thank you so much to everyone who sent their positive vibes our way for the two ARIA awards Karin and I were nominated for in the ‘Best Adult Contemporary Album’ and ‘ Best Independent Release’ categories and congratulations to the winners. It was such an honour to be nominated for ‘Song of the Southern Skies’ as we are so proud of this album.

Today I announced that we are bringing ‘Love-Song-Circus’ to Melbourne’s Spiegeltent this coming March. I cannot wait to spend the week performing for you all. I love the production and the stories we tell throughout as I feel we all have a profound connection to these tales of strength and love. I am so happy we are able to honour the stories of our convict ancestors lives through song and beautiful acrobatic movement.

‘Love-Song-Circus is a moving and truly unique work of pure beauty based on the stories of Australia’s first convict women. Combining textures of folk instrumentation, string quartet, piano and Noonan’s angelic voice with the graceful physicality of 3 of Circa’s acrobat/ aerialists, this work shares these untold stories within an evocative, beautiful and emotionally engaging performance’
